Ingredients ( 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan)
- 4 cups milk (use soy or almond milk for dairy free and Vegan)
- 3/4 cup sugar (I like half brown and half white)
- 3/4 cup fine semolina
- 1/3 cup butter (lactose free or vegan margarine)
- 3 plus inches cinnamon stick
- pinch salt
- 5 eggs lightly beaten (use vegan egg substitute)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- about half pound fillo (Athens phyllo available at most supermarkets (not sure if it is always vegan, Check label)
- 3/4 or more melted butter (I combine salted and unsalted)(use lactose free, vegan magarine or spread)
- syrup, see recipe below (I prefer it without syrup)
Instructions
- mix,milk, sugar, semolina, cinnamon sticks, and pinch of salt in a heavy based saucepan,heat until thickened. Stir constantly. It will bubble while thickening.
